Primary

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it ~ Proverbs 22:6

While our curriculum supports the development of knowledge and skills in our students, we also ensure they understand and grow in values, culture and social skills needed to collaborate with each other. The primary level begins at age 5 (Year One) to age 11 (Year Six).

Our subjects are;

  • Cambridge Primary Mathematics
  • Cambridge Primary English
  • Cambridge Primary Science
  • Cambridge Global Perspectives
  • Cambridge Primary Music
  • Cambridge Primary Physical Education
  • Cambridge ICT
  • Cambridge Art and Design
  • French as and International Language
  • Swahili Language
  • Innovation Hour

English: We promote literacy through phonics / spelling, reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar. We encourage our students to communicate well through purposeful speaking and listening to each other. We aim to develop fluency and accuracy by promoting reading through the A to Z library.  In addition, our students have Supervised Quiet Uninterrupted Individual Reading Time (SQUIRT) every day.

Mathematics: Our students develop conceptual knowledge of their environment and apply logic in numbers, measurement, shapes, time, patterns, systems, and relationships. Through play and the application of lessons to everyday life, they learn to view their world mathematically and learn to apply/practice the required principles.

Science: We teach our students to observe the world around them – people, animals, plants, trees, man-made creations such as computers, cars, buildings, crafts, etc. We prod them to be curious about these things – how they were created and what they (students) can do to improve their sustainability. This kind of teaching enhances creativity, curiosity and fun while they pick life-long lessons.

Life skills: We believe that inquiry-based learning enhances practical skills. Students learn to investigate, act, practice and innovate independently, and with the teachers’ guidance. These skills grow with them way into their professional lives.

Global Perspectives: Students are not just restricted to learning about Uganda, but also about what happens in other countries. We love learning about where our students come from. We incorporate Ugandan History and Geographical features for students to understand the country where they currently reside while keeping current with the world’s past and current events.

Cambridge Primary is an international curriculum, used in over 160 countries around the world. Devised by subject experts and rooted in academic research, this curriculum is part of the University of Cambridge.
